The other night I was in line at Borders when the cashier helping the woman in front of me suggested that the lovely tote bags behind her on a shelf was marked down to practically give away money status when total spending exceeded a certain amount. Obviously this woman had and just like that the sale was on. Of course the woman’s impulse reaction to say “I’ll take it” was met with no resistance. With that said the cashier conveniently placed her purchased items into the tote and the woman walked away feeling that she scored a big one with her new tote.

Some grocers are selling totes as a substitute to paper or plastic bags. If you bring in a recycled tote regardless of where you purchased it they the grocer credits your bill with a few pennies.
